Every year on (or near) Purim, JUFJ activists deliver mishloach manot, sweet gifts to our legislators, along with a reminder of our legislative priorities. We invite you to make or buy hamentaschen or other supplies to support this effort even if you aren't able to join us in person!
Purim is a joyful Jewish holiday that is often celebrated by passing out mishloach manot (bags of sweet gifts). This year, the first vote on the Street Vendor Advancement Act falls on Purim, and we’re headed to the Wilson Building to deliver mishloach manot to the vendors who are pushing for this bill to pass, to demonstrate our community’s support for their dignity and safety.
Join JUFJ and our partners to support rent stabilization measures and deliver mischloach manot to our local elected officials!

Many Jews feel called to the work of tikkun olam — repairing the world — but trying to solve global problems is far too much for one person. But one person can make a tremendous difference when we focus on what is happening right here. Join us for an interactive workshop with community organizers focused on building a more just Washington, DC. We’ll learn about how our local government works, and what each of us can do to make real change for the lives of our families, friends, and neighbors here in our own community.
The DC budget says a lot more than any politician’s speeches about what is truly valued by the people we elect to represent us. Join us to learn about the budget process, past victories for social justice won through budget campaigns, and what you can do right now to ensure that next year’s budget reflects the Jewish social justice values that many of us share.
One of the most effective ways to speak truth to power is to testify before the DC Council. Hearing the stories and personal narratives of constituents helps move elected officials to take action on the issues that really matter. Join us for a workshop on how to create meaningful written testimony based on your personal story and values. We’ll practice connecting your story to specific issues that are before the Council, and how to make policy change through righteous storytelling.

Join us for our last Maryland Community Meeting of the legislative cycle to review what we accomplished during this past state session!
Join us the day after Juneteenth to strategize how we’ll pass legislation to liberate Maryland kids from cages and give them the care they need and deserve!
Families, come celebrate Shabbat with us! On Saturday, August 12, we’ll join Hill Havurah for a special Tot Shabbat for Justice.
Please join Oseh Shalom and Jews United for Justice for a special Zoom presentation by Ellen Cassedy, a co-founder of the 9 to 5 movement. Ellen will present her book and will provide a first-person account of the movement as well as the inspiring movie. We will also hear from a JUFJ leader about planning for the coming Annapolis session.
Kick off the Jewish New Year at the Capital Jewish Museum's grand opening block party featuring live music, wares by artisans & makers, food trucks, a beer & wine garden, and more!
“Sukkot and Housing Justice 5784” is a downloadable guide to help us explore issues of housing justice during Sukkot. It includes Jewish sources from the Torah, the Prophets, and the Talmud examining the intersections of Sukkot and housing justice. The sources are meant to be used as a “grab bag” — in other words, use the ones that resonate with you and leave behind the ones you do not connect with. Many of the sources also include guiding questions to help you understand and dive deeper into what the text is trying to say.
At its core, Sukkot is a holiday that forces us to think about the places we reside and the spaces we occupy.
Loyola students! Join JUFJ and Campus Ministry on Tuesday October 3 to help build a Sukkah on the Quad and share Sukkot food and celebration.
