There is a rich history of Jewish neighbors building power in their hyper-local communities. From the Jewish Tenements of the late 19th and early 20th century, to Jewish street vendors and labor movements, to mutual aid practices that echo into today, the legacy of neighborhood organizing has had a profound impact on Jewish community.
JUFJ DC is looking to build on that legacy through our new Neighborhood Organizing program. Piloted by our Columbia Heights Action Group, we are looking to create new groups that are rooted in specific neighborhoods where neighbors can:
- Meet one another and build community
- Discuss issues to educate ourselves about what’s going on in our community and how we can make a difference
- Take action to impact our neighborhood at a hyper-local level
These groups will connect with JUFJ’s ongoing campaigns and they will determine collectively how they would like to make an impact. By doing both, we will ensure that we are leveraging our power to support our broader community while also staying rooted in our shared backyard. If you want to meet neighbors, skill up in your ability to build power, and take action with like-minded folks, a neighborhood action group is the place for you.
