This is an experiential workshop to understand what antisemitism is and to be able to identify when something is antisemitic and when it's not. Participants will explore their own personal experiences encountering antisemitism and learn about the negative impact of antisemitism on one's own life.
Since the killing of Robert White by a police office in the summer of 2018, JUFJ has been working with partners to bring more accountability and transparency to our county police force. Councilmember Will Jawando has introduced the Law Enforcement Trust and Transparency (LETT) Act, which would require an independent investigation and public transparency in these cases. CHARM CITY delivers a candid portrait of citizens, police, community advocates, and government officials on the frontlines during three years of unparalleled, escalating violence in Baltimore. The film highlights the work of JUFJ partner Safe Streets, a community-based approach to ending street violence.
After the documentary there will be a panel discussion featuring Alex Long, a violence interrupter featured in the film, along with Montgomery County community advocates Brandy H. M. Brooks and Candace Kattar. Together they will reflect on the film and highlight actions we can take locally.
The Montgomery County Council will be voting on the LETT Act at the meeting of the full council on May 7. Packing the chamber together with our partners in the Silver Spring Justice Coalition is a great way to show our support for this important first step towards police accountability and transparency. It will begin with a vigil at 6:00PM at Three Oaks Drive, near the corner of Sligo Creek Parkway in Silver Spring. Then at 6:30PM there will be a processional to the church, one-half mile through neighborhood streets. and then there is the 7:00PM Service at Christ Congregational Church.
