Virginia Immigrant Justice Hearing

January 27 - January 28

JUFJ is supporting multiple immigrant justice bills that have been introduced in the Virginia General Assembly’s legislative session. Three of the bills, SB351, SB352, and SB783, are being heard at a committee hearing on Wednesday, January 28 in the Committee for Courts and Justice. The hearing will begin in the early afternoon, thirty minutes after the Senate General Laws and Technology Committee adjourns.

    • SB351 – Courthouse Arrests –  Requires a judicial warrant or order for civil arrests to ensure due process. Protects immigrants from being civil arrest while attending, going to, or coming from court.
    • SB352 – Identification of Law Enforcement – Builds community trust by requiring law enforcement to clearly identify themselves while on duty.
    • SB783 – End of 287(g) Agreements and Prohibition of Resources Use for Immigration Enforcement – Local and state agencies should prioritize community safety over federal immigration enforcement.

Join Virginia JUFJers on Tuesday, January 27 on Zoom at 7 PM to prepare to testify virtually at the hearing in support of these critical bills. To RSVP to the Zoom and the hearing, email elianna@jufj.org.
