JUFJ Understanding and Dismantling Racism (Pilot Program) Application
The Understanding and Dismantling Racism Program is designed for the JUFJ community to increase our collective capacity to understand and advance racial justice within Jewish spaces and in our local work for justice in multiracial and cross-class coalitions. Over the course of five 90-minute Zoom sessions, and an hour of homework between each, participants will establish shared racial justice frameworks and analysis, increase their knowledge and awareness of racism on issues that JUFJ works on, feel more connected to JUFJ’s organizing approach, increase their confidence when discussing and working toward racial justice, and recognize their own role in perpetuating and/or dismantling white supremacy. No matter where you are on your racial justice journey, this program will build alignment at JUFJ and be part of our growth together toward collective liberation.
This is the first time JUFJ is running this specific training series. We are offering it to active JUFJ leaders and we will be seeking feedback from participants. Our plan is to offer the Understanding and Dismantling Racism program on a regular basis to the JUFJ community.
We are offering this program for free, and we invite participants to make a donation.
Who should apply: People who are active JUFJ leaders and who are interested in being part of the first cohort for this program. While this program is designed for white people, everyone is welcome.
We are capping the program at 30 participants. We have set up an application to ensure representation across JUFJ jurisdictions and teams. If we hit capacity, we’ll create a waiting list.
Training Dates and Application Timeline: The program will be five (5) Thursdays beginning November 6 from 7:30-9:00 PM on Zoom. Exact dates: November 6, 13, & 20 and December 4 & 11.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. We encourage applying early to be most likely to get a spot.
- Monday, September 22 (Erev Rosh Hashanah) – Deadline for first round of applications.
- Friday, September 26 – Confirmation emails sent to first round of participants
- After Yom Kippur – Applications will be reviewed weekly and confirmations sent by each Friday starting October 3
