We need leaders who will represent all of us, and who are accountable to the whole community. That’s why we vote, and why we take seriously Rabbi Yitzchak’s teaching that community input is essential for choosing who will lead our County.
In 2026, voters will decide who will represent us at the state and local level for the next four years. Local elections have far-reaching consequences. Our state and local elected officials will decide how we spend our money, how we protect our community’s most vulnerable members, and whether our region will dismantle systemic oppression or reinforce the status quo.
Every vote matters! In most years, only 10% of eligible Montgomery County residents vote and elections are won by tiny margins. The current County Executive won the 2022 primary by 32 votes and the 2018 primary by 77 votes. The primaries are especially important, because historically whoever wins the Democratic primary also wins the general election.

Your Congressional, State, County, and Board of Education districts are all different. You only vote for the candidates in your specific Congressional, State, and County districts. Everyone in Montgomery County votes in all Board of Education races.

- You can register to vote in person during early voting or on election day (bring a document that proves where you live)
- Any registered voter may vote by mail-in ballot. It’s a great option if for any reason you can’t or don’t want to go to an early voting site or your polling place. Mail-in ballots will start being sent out to voters in mid-May. Given challenges to mail-in voting by the federal government, we suggest returning mail-in ballots very early or using one of the ballot dropboxes found around the County.
