If you’re excited about helping people grow and learn, this is the team for you! Our Political Education and Training Team is responsible for running our DC civic education and skills training programs, like our popular annual Think Jewishly, Act Locally workshop series. The team also holds down our political education campaigns to shift our community’s consciousness on two key issues and seed them throughout our work:
- Fighting for a racially equitable tax system that brings resources to our communities, because DC’s current tax system reflects a history of racist policies that privilege high-income and wealthy households. By building a tax system for the people, we can guarantee economic security for Black, brown, and working class residents instead of insulating wealth at the top.
- Defending DC home rule from federal interference, because our lack of statehood is based in anti-Black racism and disproportionately endangers Black and brown residents. In order to make lasting change on a local level, we need to be able to self-govern without federal overreach – and we need to build toward DC statehood.
The team also works with other JUFJ teams and working groups in DC to ensure that all our educational programs center racial justice. Together, we’ll build the Jewish community we’re dreaming of, one where we’ve built power around solidarity and shared safety.
