HOUSING  JUSTICE

Jewish tradition teaches that housing is a human right. Safe and dignified housing is foundational in enabling people to thrive, but our collective shortcomings on this matter are apparent across DC. Homelessness, sky-high rents that push people out of the city, and unsafe living conditions are not merely the result of bad luck but poor policy. Decades of intentionally discriminatory housing policies like redlining and racial covenants mean that this crisis especially hurts DC’s Black and brown residents.

Our Housing Justice Working Group is committed to fulfilling our obligation to neighbors in need. We work alongside the Fair Budget Coalition, Green New Deal for DC, the Way Home Campaign and others striving for increased investment in affordable housing, stronger tenant protections and an end to homelessness.

The working group meets monthly, organizes events and takes part in actions in support of Housing Justice for all DC residents.
